And a few words about facial cosmetics:
Facial cosmetics were invented by the eastern peoples of the Middle East and from there the Greek women later took them. In Athena in the 5th century, women wore cherry blossoms, which were called soumithi. Apart from the much-needed lip dyeing, the rouge of that time was milton, a preparation of algae, or the root of various plants. They painted their eyebrows with fume, stained eyes, eyelashes with either a special lint or a mixture of egg white and sand. They used wrinkle creams, sweat gum, coconut oil, thyme for the neck and knees (a vast variety of ointments from flowers, plants and oil). All of these materials were brushed with small brushes as well as with fingers.
