Restorative yoga is a type of yoga known for its relaxing, calming and healing effect.Unlike other types where one asana succeeds the other through flow and movement, in Restorative Yoga you can stay in one pose from 3 to 10 minutes. Poses are performed from supine, prone, side and seated position using round & flat bolsters, yoga bricks, straps, eye pillow, or a small blanket.
Restorative yoga stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows the heart rate, regulates the blood pressure and relaxes the body. As such, Restorative yoga is considered particularly beneficial for those suffering from anxiety, insomnia or headaches, as well as other stress-related conditions.
It can help you recover from fatigue, illness and injury or overcome emotional depression and anxiety caused by traumatic events such as divorce, loss of work and the death of a loved one.
Restorative yoga is believed to boost the immune system and accelerate the body’s natural healing process.
It can help :
- Against increased blood pressure
- Against musculoskeletal problems
- After surgery
- Against heart problems
- Against diabetes problems
- In menopause
- Against migraines and headaches
- Women in pregnancy (some poses)
